The Sad and Foretold End of Zohar Argov

The Sad and Foretold End of Zohar Argov

Israel 2017

180 minutes - A three-part series

In the thirty years since Zohar Argov's untimely death at the age of 32, he has become a myth, an Israeli icon, perhaps the greatest of them all. The series tells the story of Zohar's life beyond the myth - Zohar the man. Those closest to him, his family, friends, and partners on his journey, reveal the poverty in which he grew up, the drugs infested neighborhood, his talent, the family tragedies. The path to success and downfall, his relationship with the mother who marked him as "the one," the destined and beloved one, his relationship with his alcoholic father, the media, the law, and the state. The three episodes of the series tell the most intimate truths of Zohar, the singer whose voice captivated many when the media still refused to acknowledge his existence, as he was being considered a low-culture singer. The series is a journey from the lowest points to the highest and back down in Zohar's short, painful life and the legacy he left behind in a family that has never healed, in the world of music, and in Israeli society, thirty years after his death.

Review

"To Be a Human: The Documentary Series About Zohar Argov Tells the Story of a Man Destined to Fall.
The new series on Channel 8 grips the throat from its very first moments and doesn't let go until the end. Through candid conversations, revealing quotes from Zohar Argov himself, chilling stories about things he did or were done to him, previously unseen archival materials – all contribute to the accurate portrayal of a person whose life led him in one direction."
